If you’ve ever wondered how to store your artificial wreath, we’re here to help! Proper storage of handcrafted wreaths can transform these decorative accents into heirloom pieces you can enjoy year after year.
In this article, we’ll explore a range of practical storage solutions designed to keep your wreaths in excellent condition, whether you have a single wreath or a whole collection. With these tips, you’ll be able to keep your beautiful wreaths in tip-top shape.
The Best Storage Solution: Use the Box It Came In
When we send out our handcrafted wreaths, we carefully package them in sturdy cardboard boxes. One of the simplest (and most eco-friendly!) ways to store your wreath is by reusing the original packaging.
Reusing the original box ensures a perfect fit since it's specifically designed to accommodate the size and shape of your wreath. This snug fit helps maintain the wreath’s form and prevents it from being crushed or bent.
And perhaps the best part? No extra cost. Using the box that came with your wreath means you don’t need to invest in additional storage materials. It’s a cost-effective solution that also simplifies the storage process.
Tips for Using the Original Box:
- Clean the Wreath: Before placing your wreath in the box, gently clean it of any dust or debris. A duster or a clean paintbrush works well for this task. Removing dust and debris helps prevent buildup that could damage the wreath over time.
- Arrange the Ribbons: Ensure that any ribbons or extra decorations are neatly tucked into the box and won’t get caught when closing.
-
Seal the Box: Close the flaps and seal the box with a strip of clear packaging tape to secure it.
Alternative Storage Solutions
If you don’t have the original box your wreath came in, we have more options for how to store your wreath in the off season.
Option 1: Hang Wreath with a Garbage Bag
Did someone accidentally toss out the original box? We’ve got you! An alternative way to protect your wreath is to wrap it in a plastic garbage bag. This simple solution keeps your wreath dry, dust-free, and safe from pests, ensuring it remains in pristine condition.
You can use the handles of the trash bag (or tie your own) to hang the bag on a clothes hanger. Then you can hang your wreath in a temperature appropriate place such as a garage, basement, or closet. Make sure the area is cool and dry to prevent any potential damage from humidity or extreme temperatures.
Option 2: Store Your Wreath in a Wreath Storage Bag
In addition to the other options, you may also opt to purchase a specialized storage bag. Consider investing in a wreath storage bag designed to offer protection from moisture, dust, and UV rays. These bags are often made from breathable materials that help preserve the wreath’s integrity.

How to Store Multiple Wreaths
If you have multiple full-size wreaths for different seasons and occasions, well, you’re one of us! 😉 We love changing out wreaths with the seasons, but storing multiple wreaths together requires a few considerations.
For optimal protection, store each wreath separately to prevent them from bumping into each other and causing damage. (The box method works great here!) This is especially important if the wreaths have delicate decorations or embellishments.
If you need to stack wreaths, it’s best to keep them in their individual original boxes. This provides a sturdier stack. If you don’t have the original boxes but still need to stack them for space, place tissue paper or bubble wrap between each wreath to cushion and protect them. Make sure to place heavier wreaths at the bottom and lighter ones on top to avoid crushing.
How to Store Multiple Mini-Wreaths
Mini-wreaths are a bit of a different story! Mini-wreaths, like those used for windows or indoor decorating, tend to be a lot lighter so you can get away with storing them together. However, proper storage is still important to keep them in good condition. Here are a few options for storing mini-wreaths:
- Large Storage Box: Use a large, shallow box with dividers made from tissue paper, bubble wrap, or cardboard to keep mini-wreaths organized and protected.
- Wrap and Bundle: Wrap each mini-wreath individually in tissue paper or plastic, then bundle them together in a breathable bag. This method helps prevent tangling and keeps the mini-wreaths in good condition.
- Multi-Compartment Storage Bag: Consider using a storage bag designed with compartments specifically for small decorations. This type of bag helps keep mini-wreaths neatly organized and well-protected.
Dos and Don’ts of Storing Your Wreath
When in doubt, keep these wreath storing tips in mind to preserve your wreaths and keep them looking vibrant, fresh and full!
Dos:
- Store in a Cool, Dry Place: Keep your wreath in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight and moisture to preserve its condition.
- Use Dividers When Stacking: If you need to stack wreaths, place dividers like tissue paper or bubble wrap between them to prevent crushing.
- Check Periodically: Regularly inspect your wreaths for any signs of damage or pests to address issues early.
- Label Your Storage Containers: Clearly label your storage boxes using a marker, printed label, or a photo of the wreath to help with easy identification.
Don’ts:
- Avoid Damp or Humid Areas: Damp or humid locations can lead to mold and deterioration — avoid this at all costs!
- Don’t Stack Without Protection: Never stack wreaths without protection between them — preserving delicate decorations and lush leaves and florals is essential.
